But you can’t have a dragon without a bunch of dapper knights trying to capture it. And since Knights love jousting… And if there are knights there have to be damsels in distress – although these damsels don’t look that upset. Oh and there’s royalty too: a dashing duke, a conniving count, and a dowager duchess. And of course, there’s plenty of shiny soldiers (good and bad) and hollering heralds, one of whom plays like this Fancy Fanfare and one who plays more like this Failed Fanfare (‘cos trumpets are tricky!).
Still not enough?
There’s a bunch of wizened wizards up to no good. There are dragon-slayers who haven’t actually ever slain a dragon and there’s bungling bandits who can’t tell dragon gold from a dragon, well, manure.
And talking of manure, where do you store the tonnes of manure that a magical dragon creates? Well, the royal gardeners have a plan. But not a very good one. And we also get to meet Leonardo Da Vinci (Dragon portrait specialist), El Giganto (the largest Knight in the Duchy) and Padre Patata, the apologetic priest.
Phew! But we’re not finished…
There’s romance: a beautiful duet – If Fishes Were Wishes, a beautiful wedding proposal and a wedding – but just who is the bride? There’s excitement: a battle of wills, a battle of swords and a battle of enormous toe-nail trimmers. There’s comedy: bungling spies, bungling guards, Chase Music and a dragon with a rather smelly problem. And last, but in no ways least, there’s cabbages. Lots and lots of cabbages: Cabbage Harvest Festivals. Cabbage Croquet. Cabbage. Cabbage hide-and-seek.
And of course… Cabbage Patch Dragons
The purchase of a single script infers no Copying or Performance rights. (Scripts and music can’t be copied for readings, auditions or rehearsals without purchasing the Copying Fee.) The fee gives you the right to copy the script and musical scores that you have purchased as many times as you need for these performances.
To stage a performance, you must announce your performance dates to Maverick Musicals and state whether you are or are not charging for tickets. This will dictate what kind of royalty fee you will be invoiced for.
Copying Fees (for rehearsal materials) and a Performance License must be obtained before your production can take place. Our streamlined system means that a Performance License Application is activated when you order the Basic or Deluxe Package. (Please note that it is a breach of Copyright to copy scripts and music, or to perform musicals or plays without the Publisher’s permission.)
Sample: Cabbage Patch Dragon
Set in the Renaissance Italy, the story tells of a browbeaten young Duke on the verge of losing his beloved duchy. But his last moment desperate wish for help is seemingly answered when he discovers an enormous magical dragon in the royal cabbage patch and chooses to save it from his over-zealous subjects.
But when his mother arranges a marriage with the daughter of the bullying Count who cheated and bankrupted his father, the Duke must learn to stand up for himself and learn that neither magic nor might makes you right – but courage and good friends are the special ingredients required to outsmart the enemy and save a kingdom.
From the writer of Conundrum and Heroes, comes Cabbage Patch Dragon; an upbeat K-8 musical about a dragon – in a cabbage patch! Now any show with dragons and cabbages in it is bound to be a roaring success. Even more so if it has songs about Dragons and Cabbages…
