The central theme of this play is the gap between parents and children. It is explored humorously through the decision taken by a pair of middle-aged parents to run a marathon to raise money for charity.

Their children find this inappropriate and embarrassing and attempt to sabotage it. The end result establishes the fact that although children find the actions of their parents strange, the bond of love between them is not diminished.
