Copyright Information
The purchase of a single script infers no Copying or Performance rights. (Scripts and music can’t be copied for readings, auditions or rehearsals without purchasing the Copying Fee.) The fee gives you the right to copy the script and musical scores that you have purchased as many times as you need for these performances.
To stage a performance, you must announce your performance dates to Maverick Musicals and state whether you are or are not charging for tickets. This will dictate what kind of royalty fee you will be invoiced for.
Copying Fees (for rehearsal materials) and a Performance License must be obtained before your production can take place. Our streamlined system means that a Performance License Application is activated when you order the Basic or Deluxe Package. (Please note that it is a breach of Copyright to copy scripts and music, or to perform musicals or plays without the Publisher’s permission.)
About
This show-within-a-show is set in two romantic and evocative locales; a bustling Victorian-era porcelain factory and Ming Dynasty China. While the main story deals with young Thomas Barnes and his efforts to save his father’s factory from being sold to the malefic money-lender Potter Parimutel the Chinese tale retells the story of the Willow Pattern, with a decided comedic emphasis!

Casting opportunities abound with the two stories, although interwoven, able to be rehearsed separately. There’s parts galore for all ages and abilities, with both challenging lead roles (great female characters!) and substantial chorus work. Willow Blues is a dream show for designers and costuming with the recreation of the famous ‘Willow Pattern’ plate as a principal set. Throw in a Chinese dragon dance, shadow puppets (a show-within-a-show-within-a-show!), a fiery kiln, a psychic tea-lady and a cast of thousands (almost) and this is the musical to capture your students’ hearts and imaginations.

Gail Denver –
Everyone had a ball with Willow Blues & the show was wonderfully well received. It was perfect for SHYAC. The 73 strong cast had a wonderful time performing the production to local audiences, including 100’s of school children – thanks once again!”Mandy Bransgrove. FigCreative –
Willow Blues was an absolute delight, a visual feast and such a nostalgic touch of traditional musical theatre in its style. We all loved it.

FigCreative –
Our production of Willow Blues was very successful and the 3 night run was enjoyed by all – with the possible exception of the backstage crew, who worked very hard! The children became involved with the willow Pattern story and the integration of the production into a term of theatre arts work was very productive. The music was, I felt, a highlight of the production. With the assistance of the local High School students we were able to provide full orchestration (except alto clarinet) and the young hot-shot trumpeter and sax players enjoyed soloing on “Handle with Care” – which we used for a playout. Thanks again for Willow Blues – we will certainly consider some of your other productions in the future.
