Four women, a rack of costumes, a bottle of champagne and madness rules.

Gaze inside the walls of a seemingly average family home and greet Mary – a colourful maker of exotic costumes and the domineering mother of the piece, and her put-upon but highly resilient single mother daughter Charlotte. Then there’s family friend Pamela, who’s just suffered a major upheaval. Later, the fourth character appears adding even more spice to this delicious theatrical mix.

One of the most pleasing aspects, for both actors and audiences alike, are the clever lead aways in the text. Just when you feel you can predict the likely outcomes, another twist arrives which takes The Rack into an even more interesting, enjoyable area.

With a cast of four strong females, this one-act play is a fast-paced comedy which explores the universal theme of a mother and daughter relationship – our newly released suburban comedy and sure to be popular. There’s a great recognition factor with The Rack as the characters depicted are our friends, our family, maybe even ourselves! If you’ve ever had to rearrange your home in preparation for a house guest, you may just get a special extra kick out of this sharp as a whip local comedy!

This show has had One Act Play Festival success, and it’s clear to see why. There’s great flexibility in casting, and the character of Helena doesn’t enter until the halfway point – a great opportunity for a skilled, but less experienced player.
