When a young couple is in desperate need of emergency marriage counselling, a knockabout, wise-cracking old plumber takes it upon himself to knock their marriage back into shape. His reluctant partner in instant marriage-repair is a woman who is in no mood to counsel anyone because her own marriage of 31 years has just been flushed down the toilet!

This play has four terrific roles for actors to get their teeth into, each getting their chance to display a range of emotions. The character of Ron, whilst on the surface a rough-talking Aussie bloke, is clearly an intelligent, caring man. As he wisely observes towards the end, “Tonight, I came here to fix the toilets and found a more pressin’ problem.”

Stressed out Barb starts out trying to hide her secret but gets swept along with Ron’s audacious but worthy plan to con the younger couple. Later Barb loses control and then later still, she comes to terms with the momentous decision she has made in her life. Young couple Justin and Melissa, seeking some good old-fashioned marriage guidance, make the transition from angry and confused to a couple with some hope and cautious optimism for the future.
